The Hands That Heal, pt.2

NOTE: This has been copied from its original post verbatim, including misc jabber before/after.

since so many people (on both LJ and DoA) came out of the woodwork to comment on the first part, i’m posting the 2nd a little earlier than i was planning n_n thank you so much for the comments!! enjoy!

just to clear up a few misconceptions before we start:
– alister is single!! as far as he knows, gwen hates him and/or is mad at him.
– he is also currently doped up on strong sedatives.
– he isn’t a 10-year-old or something lol he knows what sex is, has had sex previously (though not much), and homg… is a guy. just because his anxiety is as bad as it is now doesn’t mean it’s ALWAYS been this bad.
– please don’t confuse his anxiety for some form of innocence. he did grow up homeless, after all. a lot of what may seem like innocence or propriety is him overcompensating for what he feels like he’s lacking, combined with being uncomfortable around people.
– chase is not a hussy. women have libidos too, trufax.

as for why alister, who is like ZOMGNOTOUCHIE, would agree to sleep with somebody he just met the day before…? please put a little more thought into my characters and the stories, because there is a perfectly legitimate explanation (which was presented within the past three photostories) that you’ve obviously missed. i don’t mind when people just read the stories without giving them much thought, and i certainly don’t expect you to over-analyze what goes on in the characters’ heads as much as i do (that’s my job, not yours) but it is upsetting when people say they’re angry at a character for doing something that is perfectly reasonable for them to be doing.

(like all the crazy shit sparrow does… as i’ve said before, she very rarely is how she seems on the surface)

anyways, with that out of the way, let’s get on with the story lol

PS: sorry this gets pretty wordy towards the end. blame sarah!

PPS: they’re naked.

Alister, “Um… thanks.”
Chase, “My pleasure.”

Alister, “Is it, um… Is it weird to thank you for something like that?”
Chase, “Not at all.”

Chase, “Although, I guess we should get dressed before Edmund gets back.”
Alister, “Oh… Are you and he, uh…?”

Alister, “I mean… please don’t tell me I’m going to regret doing this.”

Chase, “Nah, of course not. Don’t worry.”
Alister, “Phew.”

Alister, “I wouldn’t want to upset him, especially after I haven’t seen him in so long.”
Chase, “Edmund and I are purely business associates. And besides…”

Chase, “I get the feeling he’s more interested in your sister.”
Alister, “What? No, haha, they don’t get along at all.”

Alister, “I mean, I have a feeling they had something going on a long time ago, but not anymore.”

Chase, “Hmm… How about you? No girlfriend?”
Alister, “Ah, no… There’s a girl I kind of like, but… I don’t know. Um… you?”

Chase, “Not really. I don’t buy into the whole relationship thing much.”
Alister, “Oh.”

Alister, “Uh… like, monogamy? Or uh… Or just relationships in general? Or…”

Alister, “I mean, nevermind. It’s none of my business. You can ignore–“
Chase, “Dear Mister Alister…

Alister, “…What?”
Chase, “How are you? I must admit, I hardly know how to begin this letter…

Alister, “L-letter…?”
Chase, “…and now I find myself able to do little more than allow my pen to ramble across the page…

Alister, “No! My letter!”
Chase, “…much in the same fashion my mind is at the moment. So please, forgive me if–

Alister, “Please don’t! Put it back!”
Chase, “I already finished reading it myself. Lie back down and just listen.”

Chase, “Hmm… Do you remember the time, not long after we first met, you were trying to tell me something and I screamed?
Alister, “. . .”

Chase, “I must admit, I am horribly embarrassed by my reaction, and I never did have the opportunity to apologize. Therefore, I will do it now.

Chase, “Mister Alister, please forgive me for screaming at you. The whole situation was nothing more than a misunderstanding. Gabriel and Miss Meryll explained things to me later, but I never did have a chance to apologize for the fright I no doubt gave you.

Chase, “Well, with that out of the way, I must endeavor to find another subject with which to carry on this letter, so, I will tell you of Scotland, I think.

Chase, “It is very lovely here, nowhere near as cold as it is at home, though I am told it snowed a little before we arrived. Luckily it was gone before we even left for this new country, for which, I must admit, I am glad.

Chase, “Spring is already beginning to draw back her veil, and the trees are beginning to bud. I look forward to seeing everything green. I am certain it will be lovely. The sky here is often grey, though last night the sky was clear and I was able to see a crescent moon suspended above the lake we live next to. It was a fair sight to behold, indeed.

Chase, “It’s nothing bad. Want to finish it yourself…?”

Alister, “. . .”

Alister, “Th-thanks…”
Chase, “No problem.”

Alister, “………She sounds so sad… and she wants me to write back…”

Chase, “Well? What are you going to say to her?”

Alister, “I… I guess mine should start with an apology, too.”

chase is a receptionist, she has stealthy letter-opening skillz.

damn, gwen talks a lot! lol :B here’s the full letter if you want to read it. most of it’s in the photostory but there is a little bit more that i didn’t include.

Dear Mr. Alister,

How are you? I must admit, I hardly know how to begin this letter, and even now I find myself able to do nothing more than allow my pen to ramble across the page, much in the same fashion that my mind is at the moment. So please, forgive me if this letter is occasionally unintelligible or perhaps just a little bit odd.

Do you remember the time, not long after we first met, you were trying to tell me something and I screamed? I must admit, I am horribly embarassed by my reaction, and I never did have the opportunity to apologize. Therefore, I will do so now. Mr. Alister, please forgive me for screaming at you. The whole situation was nothing more than a misunderstanding. Gabriel and Miss Meryll explained things to me later, but I never did have a chance to apologize for the fright I no doubt gave you.

Well, with that out of the way I must endeavor to find another subject with which to carry on this letter, so, I will tell you of Scotland, I think. It is very lovely here. Nowhere near as cold as it is at home, though I am told that it snowed a little before we arrived. Luckily it was gone before we even left for this new country, for which, I must admit, I am glad. The sky here is often grey, though last night the sky was clear and I was able to see a crescent moon suspended above the lake we live next to. It was a fair sight to behold, indeed.

The people here all seem very kind, though there are few that we are able to socialize with, so my days are often very long and I find it difficult to fill my time. That being the case, do please write back soon, for I will be counting down the days until I can reasonably expect a reply from you, and already I look forward to reading your reply.

Sincerely,
Gwendolyn
